The Craft Room 14th November 2015 – Groovi Christmas lights

Its the 2nd Saturday of the month again, which means its Groovi® time

and I have an illuminating little project for the group  to do this afternoon

I think they thought they were in for a treat when I gave them all a wine glass each,  slight puzzlement when they got the tea light(battery operated) and then the penny started to drop when they got their templates

Yes! parchment lampshades, and I must apologise in advance for the quality of the photos to follow. parchment being transparent is not easy to photograph especially with a light behind lol. so please bear with me on this.

There are 2 templates (see templates page) :-

A round lampshade template. this will fit onto an A4 sheet

A square lampshade template. this with fit onto 2 A5 sheets or 1 A4 sheet

Please do not try to make a round one with the square template or a square one with the round one. It will NOT work, believe me I tried.

Once you have decided which shape shade you want and have cut out your template (I very kindly had pre cut all the templates for the group). Tape it to your parchment with low tack tape.

Cut round the template. (We found this a lot easier than trying to draw round)  and just make a little nick at each end of the dotted line to mark the overlap flap line, then just peel away the tape.

To score the overlap line just find one of the border plates with a straight line on it, line up the 2 little nicks you have just made

and score with the no 1 end of your embossing tool.

Now all you have to do is decide how you want to decorate your shade

We experimented with different glues, tapes etc to find one that would not be too noticeable and the one we found to work best was a tape pen followed by double sided tape. as the seam will be at the back it is not too noticeable anyway

Now with the lights on

They do look really lovely, these photos are not doing them justice, sorry.

As all the shades completed were round ones here is a paper sample of the square one just so that you can see the shape

I have also now found some coloured velum in my paper stash, its a bit thin but if I am careful……..

We are using Clarity Stamps new “Groovi”® parchment system to help us to learn the basics of parchment craft and to hopefully go onto the more skilful elements.

Groovi Plate Starter Kit

Here is the link to Barbara Gray’s you tube video  Groovi introduction. for any of you are interested in finding out a bit more about it -this system basically makes creating the line art required for parchment craft so easy anyone can do it.
