Craft Room Summer Break

Hello, I thought I would do a quick post just to let you know that although the craft room is still on for the group to meet up for their Saturday crafty afty sessions, because of holidays, weddings (everyone seems to be getting married this summer lol)  etc there are always one or two or three missing each week at the moment so I have not planned anything  specific until September. This  does mean that as there is not much happening in the classroom at the moment I have not had much to blog about either, hence the recent lack of posts for which I must apologise

This “sort of” summer break has given me the opportunity to concentrate on other things including my first book folding workshops which are being held at Bonnet’s Cafe in Scarborough. The first one was on Friday evening – An introduction to book folding

 

and thanks to the weather actually being nice, we were able to hold the workshop in the cafe courtyard. Although it was not fully booked those that did attend seemed to enjoy it and are coming back for  this Friday’s work shop (7th August)  to “learn how to book fold with paperbacks”

I must admit to be really enjoying the journey , which is a bit of a change of direction for me, and joining the Face book group Book folding Ideas Patterns and Advice has been the best thing I have done in  long time. The group so helpful and inspirational, Mia Linnecor, Nicki Brave and Yvonne Layland to name but a few  have inspired me so far. It is just brilliant. It is a closed group but it is really worth joining if you fancy having a go at book folding.

Because of copyright issues, especially now that I am holding workshops, I am learning to design my own patterns so I can hand them out to the classes with out having to worry about any infringements . The heart design above was one of my first which I managed fine so when I saw the stunning  vase and flower books being done by Mia Linnecor  and others, I thought that they would make a brilliant future work shop project which meant that I would to design my own vase pattern. What could be so difficult about making a pattern for a simple vase shape? Yes, it took me ages to get it any where near right lol. I made the flowers quicker, but I got there in the end I think.

What more can I ask for?, my new love of book folding combined with my long time love of making paper flowers, heaven. Need to have another go at this lol, but have now just seen another inspirational project by Yvonne England that has got me thinking about Christmas. Just love this group and have definitely got my mojo back.

Hopefully I will be able to show you some of the finished projects from the workshops over the next week or so  and the craft room will be back to normal in September when we will be starting on the parchment journey with Clarity Stamp’s “Groovi” plates, just need to dig out all my old tools now, lol.
