The Craft Barn’s 2015 Calendar Challenge – May
Yes! we are in May, we had so been looking forward to May, the 9th in particular as thanks to Jane Telford, a friend of Lisa’s, we finally had tickets to the Happy Stampers craft fair in Port Sunlight.
I picked Lisa up at 7am on Saturday morning and we were on our way, past York onto the M62 and stop!!!!! some poor soul had decided enough was enough and was attempting to throw himself off a bridge over the M62. That was that, motorway closed in both directions for 7 hours whilst he was eventually talked down, which was good for him, but alas as it took us 2 hours to get off the motorway and then another hour trying to find an alternative route. We finally decided it was not going to be our day and on seeing a road sign for Leeds headed back that way instead. After 6!/2 hours in the car we finally pulled up at the Monks Cross shopping centre at York for a much needed toilet and lunch stop along with a consolation-ally mooch round Hobby-craft.
It may not have been the day out we planned, but we still managed to have a laugh whilst chatting in the car and have also planned for our next attempt to go to Port Sunlight in October, this time we will be setting off the day before to make sure we get there when the doors open lol.
So on Sunday instead of playing with the new crafty goodies I had planned to buy I had time to work (play) on my May calendar for the Craft Barns Calendar challenge instead.
The Craft Barn’s Calender Challenge theme for May is Magenta and Flowers
Full details of the challenge including rules of entry etc can be found on The Craft Barn’s new blog site thecraftbarnblog.blogspot.co.uk
Using some Magenta (Pebeo) acrylic I painted on a graduated colour wash over which I then stamped Ryn’s Hibiscus flower and leaves in pink and green Versa colour ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Hmm not showing up that well, it needs one of my favourite techniques I think – gilding wax (Pebeo again) over the embossing.
Sorry the light is not brilliant for taking photos. To finish I edged with gilding wax and stamped and cut out a flower and leaves from the same stamp set to add as an embellishment, then decided it needed something else so added the humming bird from a Sheena Douglas stamp set too. Now step away before I add anything else lol.
This is a first, I don’t usually have my calendar piece finished this early, may even have time to try a weekly challenge too this month 🙂
Thank you for taking to time to visit and read x
