The Craft Barn’s Q&L Challenge no 11 – A tribute to a “Phenomenal” Woman
Dr Maya Angelou was, in her own words, a “phenomenal” woman and I was saddened to hear of her passing on the 28 May this year.
Maya Angelou lived her life her way and fought long and hard for what she believed in. An author, Poet, actress, dancer singer as well as a civil rights activist are among her many talents. She was quite literally “the change she wanted to see in the world”
I recently saw this video of her reciting her poem, “Phenomenal Woman” and it made me smile. here is the link if you would like to hear it too.
I was also determined that for the next Q&L challenge I would use one of her quotes and as there are so many attributed to her I did not think that it would be a problem – then I saw the words chosen for this challenge, Mountain and Mistake. They don’t call this a challenge for nothing do they.
This is my entry for challenge 11 and the quote I have used is by Dr Maya Angelou
“We write for the same reason that we walk, talk, climb MOUNTAINS or swim the oceans – because we can. We have some impulse within us that makes us want to explain ourselves to other human beings. That’s why we paint, that’s why we dare to love someone – because we have the impulse to explain who we are. Not just how tall we are, or thin.. But who we are internally.. perhaps even spiritually. There’s something, which impels us to show our inner souls. The more courageous we are the more we succeed in explaining what we know.”
Rest in Peace Maya Angelou.
