This is our final session of what has been a thoroughly enjoyable and absorbing month and I just want to say a BIG thank you to Jenna, on behalf of all the group, for giving us her time(and patience) and expertise (all 6 months of it) over the last month to show us the basics of what is the “Art of Zentangle®”
Today we have just been completing the projects we started last week so this week’s blog is mainly to showcase the groups finished projects which I think , after just 4 three hour lessons, are amazing pieces of artwork.
Before I start I just wanted to show the finished classroom piece from lesson 3, where Jenna drew 1 string over 6 tiles and then gave each of us a tile to complete, the only stipulation was that we all had to use the same 4 tangle patterns. If you read lesson 3 there was a piece missing and I promised to show the finished project so here it is. It just shows how differently each person can interpret a pattern even though we were all shown the same step outs
The first of our final creations is Diane’s, last week she had completed and mounted her 4 tiles spelling out the word HOME but sadly has not yet managed to find a frame the right size, instead she found a lovely heart shaped frame. When she found it she knew it would be just the thing to for her Ben Kwok heart mandala template which she had managed to complete during the week. ( Ben Kwok is an amazing artist which I mentioned last week , who designs templates for people to use and can be downloaded form his Facebook group Ornation Creation. )
This is now going to be a wedding present for her son, who is getting married in a fortnight, I think he will be pretty amazed when he finds out that she has done this herself.
Jackie, who had completed a Ben Kwok mandala template the previous week had taken the Ben Kwok squirrel template home last Saturday to have a go at. I got picture sent to my phone on Sunday afternoon. ( I am not going to go into the trouble I had to actually get this picture except to say that I eventually received it via email from Lisa, Thank you Lisa)
Last week Jackie had also started on her border and this week she carried on with that and here it is completed.
This is going to look amazing framed and hung. The border really finishes it off, no one will believe that those tiles are the first ones you ever tangled and she has managed to incorporate most of the tangle patterns she has learnt this last month into that border.
I will have to show Margery’s and Lisa’s work later as I did not get chance to take photo’s before they left so will add later.
I managed to complete my own 4 tile project too this week with a border like Jackie s
I made a few errors, but as in every craft, there is no such thing as a mistake and in the Art of Zentangle® it just becomes a “variation on a tangle” lol
I also mentioned last week that I was plucking up the courage to have a go at Ben Kwok’s sea horse template, well I have made a start…
The template is actually of a pair of sea horses back to back, but I want them facing towards each other and each as a single horse so I can mount them in separate frames. One down one to go and really pleased with it though
Jenna has done a brilliant job with us over the last month and I think you will be seeing “zentangle” inspiration in our work in the future. We will definitely come back to this later in the year for some more advanced lessons and just to finish off here is a card Jenna “doodled while we were all finishing off our work today
The birthday greeting is a Tonic die and fits perfectly with Jenna’s Zentangle inspired border which I think makes a lovely and unique birthday card.
You can see more of Jenna’s art work on her blog, proambathbombs.wordpress.com and all the tangle patterns shown, and many more, can be found on tanglepatterns.com . If any one would like to have a go this is a great place to start.
Oops nearly forgot, so engrossed with zentangle® yes we did have cup cakes this week and a new recipe variation I thought I would try out too, Chocolate Orange, very yummy, we will be having these again.
Thank you for reading and have a good week
