Christmas Ornaments part one
Back in October when we were at the Harrogate Craft show there was a stall called ‘Everything a pound’. I spotted these sets of ornament shapes and thought that they would be ideal for our special Christmas crafty session.
At a pound a set AND buy ten get two free it wasn’t going to break the bank either.
So this Saturday I gave all the girls a set of the ornaments and we set about to turn them into something really clam and glitzy.
First step was to give them a coat of Gesso to seal them and to give us a decent base to work from, then a base colour. Now the fun begins.
I pass ‘The Works’ shop quite often and usually pop in to see what they have in, so during the summer months I have stocked up on Gesso, tubes of metallic acrylics, gloss medium etc., so all these came out along with my stencil and glitter boxes.
Giving the ornament a coat of metallic gold followed by stencilling with a generous layer of acrylic gave a really good effect
Then it was a case of what else can we do, if you stencil with either acrylic paint or gloss medium and then covered with glitter the glitter stuck without having to mess about with glue.
As you can see the girls really had some fun trying out different variations.
These have all been left to dry now and will be finished off in two weeks time on the 21st at our Christmas Party Session(last one before I have a break for Christmas) We will be starting later giving the girls chance to get some shopping done then its play time from 4pm and instead of coffee and cup cakes it will be Paella and a glass or two, three, four of wine. We deserve it!
Just a note for cup cake lovers I made some special Christmas cup cakes this week which were really delicious, they were based on a recipe I found on Baking Mad.com which I just tweaked slightly and added some Bailey’s butter icing topped with a sprinkling of grated nutmeg. You can find the recipe for these on my new cup cake recipe page.
There is no Craft room session next week as Lisa and I have a Date with Hels Sheridan and a melt pot at Craftique in Hessle , can’t wait, and promise to show and tell.
